No, I can't golf, but I can still get sore trying...

I had a super busy weekend consisting of a trip into the city on Saturday to reconnect and hang out with friends, browse a fun and very hipster craft fair, and play Uno on a roof top deck.  The weather was fantastic and it was a terrific time!
Sunday was family day, so I took a 3 mile walk with my mom, went to the driving range with my parents and my brother, and spent the evening grilling out, playing with the dogs, and attempting to kick my brother's butt at Rummikub.  We both wound up losing to my dad.  This was only my second time attempting to swing a golf club and while I was able to connect a couple of times, I'm not exactly an overwhelmingly good golfer.  (In fact, I came dangerously close to a hitting a house in the neigborhood next to the range a couple of times.)  Fast forward to today and my arms and back are super sore.  I know I'm out of shape, but I'd feel a little better about it if I at least had a halfway decent golf game to show for it...
Adding to my discomfort today is the fact that I spent my entire day standing up and talking at local schools about my job with the shuttle program.  I love talking to kids about what I do did and getting them interested in math, science, and engineering.  But doing it all day (in heels) definitely took it's toll on my body.  I'm EXHAUSTED! Off to bed to try to recouperate before I go to talk at my old high school tomorrow morning (at 7:25 am - ugh!).

Wow, Sorry...

While it's sort of rewarding to hear my friends asking me why I haven't been posting on my blog lately (meaning some of you are actually reading it!), I also appologize profusely!  Since getting laid off from my job 2 weeks ago I've been having trouble getting on a regular schedule and unfortunately Head in the Clouds has suffered as a result.  Here's a quick update of what I've been up to these last couple of weeks and I promise from here on out I'll try to start posting regularly again...
I've been spending some more time with friends who were already laid off from the shuttle program earlier in the month.  We've had a number of going away parties (sad), people actually moving away (sadder), and associated alcohol consumption (funny and sad simultaneously).  I've been trying to catch up on sleep, which I think I may have finally accomplished a few days ago.   I'm still applying to jobs, but since I want to remain in the space industry the going is slow and I haven't heard back from any yet.  It's weird that it's only been two weeks, because my over-active brain is already freaking out that I've been unemployed for "so long"...
I've also been doing some travelling now that I have "unlimited vacation time".  I went to my friend C's wedding in Kansas City over Labor Day weekend, which was wonderful.  We've been friends since 2nd grade and it was so wonderful to see her and her family.  While I was there I also explored the city a bit and found a fantastic farmer's market/flee market where I stocked up on fresh peaches, mini baguettes, and vintage brooches.  It was a fantastic weekend until I went a bit overboard on the whisky shots at the post-wedding bar trip and spent the rest of the weekend/week recovering from a very uncomfortable hangover.

Currently I'm up in Chi-town hanging out with my parents for a few days and visiting with a couple of friends.
